My current research projects are:
Delinquency and Moral Attitude. How do adolescents and young adults think about delinquent behavior and the victims of delinquency? And how does this thinking change with increasing age? This project is part of the Utrecht Study of Adolescent Development (USAD) which includes a little less than 3000 respondents and uses three waves of data-collection. The "Delinquency and Moral Attitude" project is carried out in cooperation with Harm 't Hart (Department of Methodology and Statistics).
Randomized Response Method. This method is a way to protect the respondent against exposure when answering social sensitive questions. The method offers an improved protection of privacy and has as its goal to enhance the respondent's willingness to answer social sensitive questions. The current research project uses more than 300 social security clients and concerns sensitive questions about fraud. Research questions are: How can Trust in and Understanding of the Randomized Response Method be measured and what are the factors that enhance Trust and Understanding? The project is carried out in cooperation with Peter van der Heijden (Department of Methodology and Statistics) and Ger van Gils (BOA, Utrecht).
Fractional Design for Facet Questionnaire Construction. The Facet Questionnaire Construction Method can result in a large number of facet-combinations, i.e. in a large number of questions. Fractional Design can be used to reduce the number of facet-combinations. We have constructed a computer program that assists with the choices that are involved with fractional design and are working on articles that explain the use of the combination of Facet Questionnaire Construction and Fractional Design. This project is carried out in cooperation with Godfried van den Wittenboer (Department of Pedagogy, University of Amsterdam).
The detection of interaction effects using Anova. Additive and multiplicative effects can be difficult to differentiate. Click here to go to a mathcad simulation that demonstrates the problem.
Two-dimensional Sociometric Status determination with Rating Scales. The use of rating scales when obtaining Sociometric Status scores has certain advantages. SSRAT is a program that obtains various Sociometric Status scores from rating scales and translates this to a file that can be used in SPSS for further analysis. This project is carried out in cooperation with Gerard Maassen (Department of Methodology and Statistics).
Simulation Project of Delinquency and Moral Attitudes. The development of adolescent delinquent behavior and adolescent thinking about its consequences is studied in a three waves project, with a lag of three years between two subsequent waves. Three years is a rather long period in adolescent development and the question arose how the individual development can be described for the periods in between. The main goal of the project is to develop a model to predict delinquent behavior after three years, using the parameters of the previous wave. This project is carried out in cooperation with Cor van Dijkum (Department of Methodology and Statistics).
Students who want to cooperate in one of these projects can send an email to me.
