

Daniel (Daan) Brugman studied psychology in The Netherlands at the universities of Groningen and Leiden. In his dissertation (1988) he investigated the effect of social studies lessons on pupils' values development. Currently he is professor in developmental psychological aspects of interventions in youth care at the Department of Developmental Psychology at Utrecht University, The Netherlands. His main interest is in the meaning, measurement and conditions of sociomoral functioning of children and adolescents in schools and residential settings. His research as well as his teaching focuses on development of moral judgment, moral self, perception of moral atmosphere, and moral disengagement through self-serving cognitive distortions.
